      Frequently Asked Questions

You need a Letter of Acceptance for a full-time course (listed on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes - ILEP) lasting at least one academic year.

You must provide proof of financial resources of at least €10,000 for your first year of study (for courses longer than 8 months). This amount is subject to change and should be verified on the official immigration website.

You also need proof of private medical insurance and must apply for a D-type long-stay visa online through the AVATS system.

The processing time for an Ireland long-stay student visa typically takes 4 to 8 weeks (up to 30 working days).

It is highly recommended to apply at least 8 weeks (and up to 3 months) before your date of travel, as processing can take longer during peak periods (June to September).

Yes, international students with a Stamp 2 immigration permission are allowed to take up casual employment with the following restrictions:

      • During Term Time: Up to 20 hours per week part-time.
      • During Holiday Periods: Up to 40 hours per week full-time.

The designated full-time holiday periods are: June to September (inclusive) and December 15 to January 15 (inclusive).

It is called the Third Level Graduate Scheme (Stamp 1G).

      • Eligibility: Graduates of Level 8 (Honours Bachelor Degree) or Level 9/10 (Master's/PhD) from a recognised Irish institution.
      • Duration:
        • Level 8 (Honours Bachelor): 12 months (Stamp 1G).
        • Level 9/10 (Master's/PhD): 24 months (12 months initially, renewable for a further 12 months).
      • Entitlement: You can work full-time (40 hours per week) for any employer without a separate work permit.

The path to Long-Term Residency (PR) in Ireland requires a period of qualifying work. Time spent on a student visa (Stamp 2/2A) or the Graduate Scheme (Stamp 1G) generally does not count towards PR eligibility.

      The typical path is:

      1. Complete your studies and transition to the Third Level Graduate Scheme (Stamp 1G) (up to 2 years).
      2. Secure an eligible graduate-level job and transition to an Employment Permit (e.g., Critical Skills Employment Permit or General Employment Permit), which grants Stamp 1 permission.
      3. Accumulate five continuous years of legal residence in Ireland on an eligible work permission (Stamp 1 or Stamp 4) to apply for Long-Term Residency.
      4. Note: Holders of a Critical Skills Employment Permit are eligible to apply for Stamp 4 (a path to PR) after only two years of employment.
